However, it took a bit of research and a fair amount of frustration to get it all to work.
For those interested, here’s an overview:

• becoming a member is easy, just go to http://www.mobilevikins.com and follow the instructions. Up until last week you needed an invite-code but not anymore.
• when you get your SIM card in the mail, follow the instructions to activate the new SIM and your phone number. It can take up to 3 days if you decided to keep your old number.
• To set up internet, I went to my profile page and tried the Wizard. Time wasted, because it says the iPhone isn’t supported. Obviously a load of nonsense.
• Alternative 1: manually set up mobile internet on the iPhone. (forget that, too much work)
• Alternative 2: use the specially made iPhone bundle from Mobile Vikings. No idea why they don’t mention this on the profile page, but you can find it on their blog. Just download the .ipcc file and remember where you put it.
• Before going any further, you need to determine what version of iTunes you have. You’ll need it to install that bundle on your iPhone. For an iTunes version below 8.2, there’s no problem. Just follow the instructions on the blogpost and you’re done
• for iTunes 8.2 and higher, on a Mac, you need to input this command in Terminal first: defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE
• On a PC, open cmd, surf to the location of iTunes (probably cd c:\program files\iTunes) and use this command: iTunes.exe /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
• restart iTunes and follow the instructions on the MovileVikings blogpost

And that’s it really. Only big issue I had, was that I had to do a clean install in order for that bundle to work. Probably fiddled around with the preferences file too much. But if you’ve made a good backup, you should be fine.

A bit late posting this, but you can see the making-off from that Qee on Animoto. Most of the photographs are either on my camera (no batteries) or at work (I’m on holiday), so this is all I have for the moment I’m affraid.

Since I’ve had some time off this week, I got busy working on comic stuff. There’s buttons in the works, I’ll be selling 5-packs at the TNP store soon. I’ve also been using Project Wonderful for adverts and just started advertising the comic on other websites. It’s a great system. Right now I’m just using the profits from my adspace to display my own banners somewhere else. It’s getting me some good traffic. Let’s hope most stick around.

I’m a big fan of vinyl customs like Dunny, MadL and Qee so I decided to repaint our office-gnome. “What’s an office-gnome?”, you ask? Well, we’ve got a little tradition going at work, where we put a plastic gnome on someone’s desk when they make a goof. And it’s been in need of a paint job. With a bit of luck, I’ll also be painting a Bear Qee soon. If it ever gets past custom’s before Friday.
Totally unrelated, but I went to see the new Star Trek movie yesterday and it was awesome. All the classic nerdy moments were referenced, from the fate of redshirts up to the Vulcan nerve pinch. And as @corneel said: they built a truely magnificent bridge. The design and effects of the movie alone are reason enough to go see it. Some story-elements I’m sure die-hard geeks won’t agree with, but it’s a good story and I enjoyed it very much.

That said, these things tend to cross-over from time to time. Like this: I recently joined a webcomic collective, The Noir Project. There: an update, something about comics and on my life in general. Check it out, we’ve got talent.

On the subject of webcomics, I’ve been thinking about my old idea to write features and reviews. There’s this whole area of women in webcomics that’s had my attention for a while now. As opposed to the printed comics world, the internet is a veritable well of women-creators. It boggles the mind how there could be so much difference between the 2 media. I mean, check out Shazzbaa, Girls with Slingshots and Anders loves Maria for example. Fantastic work. More on that when I find some time to start outlining this for myself first.

Hey, how about that economic crisis? You having as much fun with it as I am? I bet you do. Seriously thought, those of us still under employment are lucky to have a job. I think that’s quite obvious, but that doesn’t mean we have to love it. Raises are frozen (no matter how deverving of one you are), for everyone employed there’s 3 more standing inline (especially in the design sector) and people are passing blame in an attempt to save there own hide. It’s frustrating to live like that. Speaking from my experiences these past 2 weeks, I’ve heard some fucked up shit being said about co-workers (and by extention, about myself and my function) and I’m not too happy about it. Certain policies and disrespectful behaviour that I was completely unaware of, make me wonder if it’s the general malaise causing this or if I’m just plain naive. I’m glad I still have my creative drive and my webcomic to focus creativity on. Without it, I’d go nuts. It also has me thinking a lot about what I really want to be doing with my time. I find it hard to make certain choices, especially for something like a career, so I like to try out and learn. For the 2-years-and-a-half that I’ve been employed, I can safely say I’ve learned a lot. I’ve also concluded that I’ve been going in a direction that I’m not entirely comfortable with. Leaving me in a sort of hybrid state between being a designer and a developer. I studied to be a graphic designer, I have a great interest in the web and how things are built, so that naturally led me to learning css (and even a bit of flash, but I’ve given up on actionscripting). This is something I’ve enjoyed greatly and I’ve had the environment to learn it in, but it’s also given me a great deal of frustration that I’m not able to use my creative energy more in day to day life. I’m not sure if I can live with having to bottle it up and spend it all in the weekend or at night. I’m not a very pushy person, so that makes it harder for me to take a direction. But I do pride myself on having character and self-discipline. Would it be the time for making tough decisions, before someone else makes them for me? It could very well be so. I still have to find a way/place to move on to though. Something to focus on, ’cause right now everything is intangible.

After the ego-site, now comes the webcomic in all its redesigned glory: Behold!

The new site design is now Live. How many versions has it been? I’m guessing we’re at number 7 now. Anyways, this is probably the best one so far. Still a couple of little bugs to fix (if anyone has an idea why jQuery won’t play nice with Wordpress, please add a comment) but other than that, it’s fine. I’m still happy with the main layout and design. After looking at it for 2 weeks, and that’s saying much.

• There’s actually 3 styles you can choose from. The switcher buttons are at the top of the sidebar, so check that out.
• Haven’t done much testing in IE7, but there shouldn’t be much trouble. IE6 support, however, already went away and died quietly in a ditch with the last theme. Just the way it should be.
• Put up a new (temporary) logo. It’s a scribble I made in Illustrator one day, and it looked kinda cool, so I kept it for the site. Knowing myself, there’ll probably be a new one up in a month.
